THE HAWTHORNE LEGACY: AN INHERITANCE GAMES NOVEL
Author: Jennifer Lynn Barnes
Publisher: Little, Brown Books for Young Readers
Summary:
The homeless man with whom she played chess in the park being the son of the testator, who gave his entire fortune to her, was not on Avery’s bucket list. But as if that wasn't shocking enough, Avery comes to know that Tobias Hawthorne II (aka Toby), son of Tobias Hawthorne, was assumed dead. How can a man who was assumed dead in a dangerous fire be alive? And if he was alive then why didn't anyone notice? Why didn't he bother to return back to the mansion where he could live in luxury rather than living on the streets?
Review:
The Inheritance Games 1 left everyone on the cliffhanger. “Find Tobias Hawthorne II”, the secret message Tobias Hawthorne had left in his letter to Xander. Nobody would've believed that Toby was alive, since he was presumed dead more than a decade ago. But Tobias Hawthorne was no slouch. He knew Toby was alive; after all he was his father. Or was he?
Another day, another game left for the Hawthorne brothers and Avery by the old man. But this game is far more serious and life changing.
Rich people often (not always but often) tend to have a ton of dirt on them. But their wealth is enough to scrape off the dirt without leaving a trace. Avery found that out after living amongst the Hawthornes. So did Toby; and he was not happy about it. His "family" committed some serious crimes and got away with it, kept some grave secrets and well...Toby was not happy to say the least. You’d think 'Why was this guy getting upset over the bad things rich people do when he himself was born into a rich family?’ I don’t want to spoil the major plot of this book so all I will say is that the Hawthornes may have kept some secrets about his birth. Does that give deja vu? If it does, then it's because Avery’s mom often told Avery “I have a secret…about the day you were born” So is it possible that Toby knew Avery’s mom somehow? And that the old man knew about it, that's why he chose Avery? I'm going to leave that up to you guys to figure out.
One thing I’m going to tell you guys for sure though, Toby was a really smart and genuine guy. And genuine people don't like living among billionaire liars who use money to cover up their scandals.
Secrets, lies,
All I despise.
The tree is poison, Don’t you see?
It poisoned S and Z and me.
The evidence I stole is in the darkest hole.
Light shall reveal all I writ upon the…
