Unraveling the prophecies : Percy Jackson and the Olympians
Unraveling the prophecies : Percy Jackson and the Olympians
1. The Lightning Thief
“You shall go west, and face the god who has turned
You shall find what was stolen, and see it safely returned
You shall be betrayed by the one who calls you a friend
And you shall fail to save what matters most, in the end.”
The first prophecy Percy received. The last 2 lines definitely scared me but prophecies tend to have double meanings.
Percy, Annabeth and Grover get into the Underworld through the entrance in LA. Initially they assumed that Hades had stolen the lightning bolt, but as it turned out, Ares had helped Luke steal the bolt so that there would be a war (typical
war-god-ish stuff apparently)
Aside from Zeus’ Master Bolt, Percy also found Hades’ Helm of Darkness and returned it.
Luke had pretended to be Percy’s friend but he gave him shoes that would purposely take him to Tartarus. Later, Luke also attacked him with a pit scorpion.
During the entire quest, Percy’s mission was to get back his mother. But when he was in the Underworld he used the three pearls to get away with Annabeth and Grover. Hades returned her after he got his Helm of Darkness.
2. Sea of Monsters
"You shall sail the iron ship with warriors of bone
You shall find what you seek and make it your own
But despair for your life entombed within stone
And fail without friends, to fly home alone"
Clarrise’s prophecy that she won (quite literally). I dont understand why she didnt take any friends with her despite the prophecy clearly stating “fail without friends”.
Clarrise sailed aboard the CSS Birmingham with a skeleton army that her dad, Ares, gave her.
The quest was for finding the Golden Fleece, which she found with the help of Percy, Annabeth and Tyson.
She does end up being trapped in Polyphemus’ stone cave and despairs for her life.
If it wasn't for Percy, Annabeth, Grover and Tyson, Clarisse would have probably been in Polyphemus’ cave forever and failed her quest.
3.The Titan’s Curse
“Five shall go west to the goddess in chains,
One shall be lost in the land without rain,
The bane of Olympus shows the trail,
Campers and Hunters combined prevail
The Titan’s curse one must withstand
And one shall perish by a parents hand”
Zoe’s Nightshade’s prophecy. Probably the only prophecy she received in her lifetime. Also one of the rare time when the prophecy didnt have any double meaning.
Really straightforward. 5 people save Artemis who was chained.
Bianca di Angelo died in the desert in an attempt to save her friends from Hephaestus' defective prototype, Talos.
Throughout the quest, the Ophiotaurus kept appearing in random water bodies. It was the bane of Olympus because whoever sacrifices it in flames would have the power to destroy Olympus.
The quest would only be successful if the hunters and campers worked together.
By taking the Titan’s Curse, Percy frees Artemis off her burden after he realized that he had no chance of defeating Atlas.
Zoe Nightshade was killed by the poison of the dragon, Ladon, due to her father, Atlas.
4. The Battle of the Labyrinth
“You shall delve in the darkness of an endless maze,
The dead, the traitor, the lost one raise
You shall rise or fall by the ghost king’s hand
The child of Athena’s final stand
Destroy with a hero’s final breath
And lose a love to worse than death”
Annabeth’s first own quest. Definitely one of the hardest quests; The quartet not only had to go inside a maze designed to drive you crazy but also had to find Daedalus, convince him to not give the string to Luke and fight all sorts of monsters.
The quartet enters Daedalus’ Labyrinth through the entrance found inside camp.
Nico di Angelo raised in the dead; Ethan Nakamura was spared despite being a traitor and the message of Pan, the lost one, was spread.
Unlike what was assumed by Percy, Minos was not the ghost king. It was Nico, who helped the quartet with their quest.
The child of Athena was Daedalus, who died during the battle of the labyrinth.
The Labyrinth’s life force was tied to Daedalus, so when the died, the labyrinth was destroyed.
Towards the end of the book, Annabeth loses Luke to Kronos, who uses Luke’s mortal body as a temporary host.
5. THE LAST OLYMPIAN
“A half-blood of the eldest gods
Shall reach sixteen against all the odds
And see the world in endless sleep
The hero’s soul, cursed blade shall reap
A single choice shall end his days
Olympus to preserve or raze”
The Great Prophecy. La gran profecia. In the end, despite everything, the prophecy turned out to be about Percy.
Percy Jackson, the demigod son of Posiedon, one of the eldest gods.
Percy turned 16 years old despite the multiple attempts by monsters (and some gods as well) to kill him.
Morpheus, the god of dreams, puts the entire city of Manhattan to sleep so that mortals cannot interfere.
Luke gave the dagger to Annabeth with a promise that they would always be a family but by joining Kronos, Luke broke the promise and the blade became cursed. The blade ultimately killed Luke.
Percy had to make a choice between killing Luke himself with the dagger or giving Luke the dagger. If he had killed Luke with the dagger, Kronos would’ve taken his true form but since Luke hit the dagger at his Achilles heel, Kronos was destroyed as well.
If Percy had not given the dagger to Luke then Kronos would've unleashed and Olympus would have been destroyed.
