Short Summary:
Riley Oh, a Korean-American girl living in Los Angeles cant wait till her sister, Hattie's, initiation ceremony. After Hattie's initiation ceremony she will be able to cast magic on her own. Riley is extremly happy for her sister but unlike her sister, Riley cant do magic. She is a saram, a person born with no magic because she was adopted. And she tends to get the feeling of being an outsider sometimes. But little does she know that her life is much more complicated.
Riley's family is descended from the Cave Bear Goddess-the patron goddess of service and sacrifice and thus they are part of the Gom clan. There are a bunch of diffrent clans descended from different goddesses and have equally cool powers.Hattie has this idea of casting a spell during Hattie's initation ceremony. The only problem is that the spell is forbidden and they will have to steal it from their mother's safe. What can possibly go wrong? Unfortunately everything goes wrong during the spell and Riley discovers her past is way more complicated than what her parents told her. Apart from that she also unleashs a ton of problems that a person would not want. And when she tries to make things right, they get even worse. So Riley has to go on a mission to get the last fallen star along with her best friend Emmett.
The whole book is splendid and oh my god the book has so many plot twists. And I learned so much about Korean mythology.  And who knew that there is a society of Korean witches in Los Angeles and their secret entrance is inside H-Mart. I love how each clan has their own unique power. I think I might be part of the Horangi clan since their motto is Knowledge and Truth but they dont have the best reputation. I just couldnt keep the book down and I was reading it 24/7. I read the book what, 3 times? But now I feel bad since the next issue doesnt come out before 2022. But till then I'll re-read the book and make sure I dont forget any of the cool stuff from Korean Mythology.
