REVIEW:
A follow-up to the Percy Jackson series, Rick Riordan begins another outstanding series: Heroes of Olympus, based on the prophecy by Rachel Elizabeth Dare in The Last Olympian. With new characters, new quests and new mythology, the entire series is magnificently written. But for now, we are going to focus on the first book, The Lost Hero.
The plot of this book revolves around Jason who wakes up on a school bus, going on a field trip, with no memory. The start itself screams trouble but when you are a demigod, getting into trouble is as normal as brushing your teeth. As if things couldn't get any worse, ten minutes into the field trip he is attacked and although he manages to survive along with all the other kids, their trip leader is captured. And then he is escorted to Camp Half-Blood along with Leo and Piper by Annabeth Chase (peep the PJO reference!) who is looking for Percy Jackson, who has been missing for 3 days.
Not long after, Piper is claimed by Aphrodite (much to her annoyance) Leo is claimed by Hephaestus and Jason is claimed by Zeus. Multiple failed attempts were made to bring back Jason’s memory before he got a quest to save Hera (his step-mother, when you think about it) With Piper and Leo as his companions Jason flies to Quebec, Canada on Festus, a mechanical bronze dragon found and rejuvenated by Leo.
Although the quest was initially planned for saving Hera, the trio also end up saving others, saving the school field trip leader Coach Hedge (a satyr) and Piper’s dad. Hera is saved but the major point of focus is the information the trio found. The first one being about Jason’s true identity, specifically his parentage; the second one being about the next big enemy; the third one being about the existence of another camp — a camp having rivalry with Camp Half-Blood in the past — where Percy Jackson might be.
Child of lightning, beware the earth
The giants revenge, the seven shall birth
The forge and dove shall break the cage
And death unleash through Hera’s rage
