HEROES OF OLYMPUS: THE MARK OF ATHENA
Author: Rick Riordan
Publisher: Disney-Hyperion Books
Summary:
Everything was back in business. The Greeks found Percy and the Romans found Jason. The bigger problem hadnt been solved though. The bigger problem being Gaea, Mother Earth. She’s the Kronos of Heroes of Olympus, the main problem, the root cause. And like every good villain, she had only one plan. Take over the world.
Review:
Prayers have been answered. The ultimate Annabeth spotlight is here, after what seemed like forever. I needed this girl to get her own solo quest ever since The Battle of Labyrinth came out. And well, that's what happens.
So, continuing from what happened at the end of Son of Neptune, the Argo II arrives at Camp Jupiter. The moment everyone seemed to be waiting for because who wouldn't want to know what happened when two rival/enemy parties finally met in peace.
Well, it was peaceful but not for long. A conclusion was made between Annabeth and Reyna: in order to unite the Greeks and Romans Annabeth would have to find the Athena Parthenos, a statue of Athena stolen by the Romans a long time back. And before there could be any more discussions, Camp Jupiter is attacked. By Leo.
Sounds crazy but its more or less true. I’m going to leave you people on a cliffhanger right now but he had his reason for firing.
Just as the Great Prophecy of Seven said, there were 7 demigods aboard the Argo II (with Coach Hedge as their “adult chaperone”) They landed near Great Salt Lake, where Leo met Nemesis, the goddess of revenge. He gets a fortune cookie from her, and that one cookie plays a huge role.
Fast forward a little, the septet uncovered a lot. Like the fact that Nico di Angelo was trapped by the giants. Almost halfway through Annabeth ends up going on her own solo quest, to find the Athena Parthenos, where is faced with her worst enemy.
I would give a major spoiler to you people: The book ends on an insane cliffhanger. Quite literally. Crazy what a fortune cookie could do.
Wisdom’s daughter walks alone
The Mark of Athena burns through Rome
Twins snuff out the angel’s breath
Who holds the key to endless breath
Giants’ bane stands gold and pale
Won through pain from a woven jail
